web3 is our chance to cleanly break from everything that went wrong with consumer technology over the past fifteen years.

It could be a reset from the myopic pursuit of growth, tracked by arbitrary metrics reducing complex humans with hopes & loves & dreams down to numbers that go up or down. We could leave behind the algorithmic timelines hiding what people came to see in favor of what is most likely to outrage them. In doing so, we could create the collective spaciousness to direct our outrage to those cynical few who boasted about borrowing techniques from casinos and gloated sell our most intimate data.

Instead, we could build technology with love; out of deep compassion for the family of humanity, and out of reverence for the miracle of a planet that, for now, supports us.

The Internet Renaissance must be co-created by people committed to being the best versions of themselves, and building only what is truly in each of our best interests. For all that is possible, I still see new projects glorifying the hype, FOMO & user-facing metrics that left us addicted, depressed & sleep-deprived.

To really fulfill our destiny as a species, we need to shift from short-term hype cycles to sober long-term stewardship: beyond our quarterly results or annual performance review; even beyond our own lifetimes.

I believe that crypto is our best chance to pull the rug out from under a economic system predicated on scarcity & consumption; our last chance to save the planet from corporations.

As we build it, I hope that we can save ourselves.
