Participation Trophies
The only way I know how to learn things is to do them.
Until recently DAOs felt abstract. Researching them would yield circular descriptions about voting on proposals about governance about voting.
This may make sense to people working on governance systems, but I want to use technology to solve the problems I’m already working on.
Still, people I trust said they were interesting, and I kept digging. I saw several fancy looking DAOs, but I had no idea their backstories or how to get involved with them.
What recently changed my perception was PartyDAO. It was started by ~50 people over our shared desire for a particular smart contract to be invented & open sourced. We raised funds and are using them to hire a project team to work on it. The team and project plan were decided upon as a group, and now real progress is being made on a project format I’m familiar with. UIs are being designed and code is being written. I get this.
I’m not personally on the product team, but as a DAO member I have a front-row seat to see how a DAO works in practice on something I care about, and how world-class web3 teams collaborate. I’m an observer who has skin in the game, which makes me a participant.
CabinDAO is intended to be a resource for the whole community. Together we give the time & space to creators, but we also create a participatory learning opportunity for anyone interested in coming & seeing for themselves—with skin in the game—what DAOs are all about.
With luck, it may seed a thousand more DAOs.
