To My Most Talented Friends

I’ve heard that you’re bored with making products at corporations to enrich billionaires. Me too. I’ve heard that you’re interested in crypto, but don’t know how to get up to speed. I was, too. I’ve heard that you’re still hungry to make a difference with your technology skills, even if things have felt stagnant these last years. I do, too.

At first glance web3 is a sea of unintelligible acronyms, impenetrable whitepapers, annoying finance bros, and people tweeting “lfggggg”. Perhaps you found a random tutorial & still couldn’t understand how all of the new packages & services fit together. I get it.

The most important thing is to be patient with yourself. A lot of things in work differently from the products & APIs you’ve been using, but it’s all for a reason. Decentralization is the best kind of headfuck.

Your friends are here for a reason: everyone is kind, and it feels like technology is fun again. You might need to squint a little at first but together we have the opportunity to make a genuinely positive change in the world.

The blockchain is a fresh toybox for curious technologists. Some toys are rough around the edges, but I know that you hold the sandpaper.

Every frustrating user experience is an invitation for a redesign; each confusing tutorial an opportunity to write something clearer for the benefit of all who follow you.

The grass is green over here; we have new toys, great art & music, good vibes, and lots of snacks: we’re just waiting for you.
